Tucked into Middedorp, a few streets back from the lagoon, Alegre is a family-run holiday house rather than a hotel room — the kind of place where six adults and two children can spread out for a week without getting under each other's feet. All linen and towels are supplied, so you can arrive with nothing but swimming things.
The kitchen is the heart of the house: a farm-style room with a gas stove, electric oven and fridge-freezer, built around a ten-seat table made for gathering everyone at once, plus a built-in braai for the evenings when the wind comes off the water. A washing machine takes care of the sandy towels, and the lounge has a smart TV with streaming and free Wi-Fi for the quieter hours.
Outside, a covered patio with its own braai looks over a secure, parked-in yard. The beach, a local coffee shop and the rest of the village are all an easy walk from the front door.
Check-in runs from 16:00 to 20:00, check-out is at 10:00. All ages are welcome.
Guests travelling with young children single out the caretaker, Reinette, for how clearly she explains everything and how well she looks after the house.
Reviewers keep coming back to how central it is — a short stroll from the lagoon and easy to relax into from the moment you arrive.
Recommended as a base for a water sports trip, with quick access to the lagoon for kitesurfing and sailing.
Guests consistently rate the location as excellent — the house sits within walking distance of the beach, the lagoon and a local coffee shop, in the quiet residential suburb of Middedorp.
